i & eyes is a prototype consisting of wearable sensory devices and a custom suit. These external organs, which can be plugged in anywhere on the body, collectively inform a wearer’s “personal AI,” allowing specific and idiosyncratic training of phenomena in the wearer’s everyday experience. This personal AI then communicates specific information processed by these organs back to the wearer. By including the proliferation of multiple and varied modes of sensing in a user-defined and dynamic distribution, I & Eye attempts to dissolve the persistent ocular-centrism of human-centered ideas of sensing.

Brief Background

The concept of 'ocularcentrism' is being considered from the fact that cognition in Western civilization is determined by visual paradigm, sight was once considered to be the noblest of human senses.

Brief Background

While with the ubiquity of vision machines, the process of seeing by human eyes is gradually replaced by the machine.

My Position

I point out that the process of vision machine intervention in daily life is to dissolve the ocularcentrism, I’m emphasizing that human has right to control and dispatch the building of self-centered world with various kinds of external sensory organs, which we can enhance our experience of exploring the world as well as create new perspectives and ways of understanding the world.

What is i & eyes

This is a set of wearable devices that consists of a series of artificial sensory devices and a set of specially made suits.

The External Organs (‘Eyes’ and ‘Ears’)  Variation #1

These external organs are independent from each other, they inform the built-in personal AI, and allow AI to learn the specific target from the individual everyday experience.

Thoughts

We're living in a new sensory environment that vision techniques broaden our physical body and perception limitations. It creates new opportunities for us to experience the world. My practice leads to questions such as whether the new, deconstructed vision machine’s interventions produce a new visual hegemony in the daily construction of human beings, and how it affects our relationship to the human senses and the real world.
